Students at Central Middle School are embarking on an epic adventure, preparing to launch their Sailbotix boat, the “Silicon Sailor,” on a unique journey across the Pacific Ocean. Under the guidance of their teachers and the innovative Sailbotix educational program, these young engineers have spent months designing, building, and preparing their autonomous boat.
Set to launch off the west coast of Vancouver Island in October 2024, the Silicon Sailor is destined for a world first. The boat will first navigate towards Hawaii, riding the waves and currents of the Pacific, before continuing its journey to Kushima, Japan. This ambitious project is a testament to the students’ dedication and the hands-on learning experiences provided by the Sailbotix program.
The Silicon Sailor represents more than just a technological challenge; it embodies the spirit of exploration and the pursuit of knowledge. As the students eagerly await the launch date, they continue to fine-tune their boat, ensuring it is ready for the unpredictable conditions of the open ocean. This project not only enhances their STEM skills but also fosters teamwork, problem-solving, and a sense of global connectivity.
A link to the school’s tracker page will be posted here shortly before the boat is launched.
